Ron Thomas, the father of the late Kelly Thomas, has appeared confident over the past several weeks in the Orange County district attorney's investigation of his son's death. The homeless and mentally ill Kelly was assaulted by six Fullerton police officers on July 5 and died five days after the attack. After two months of probing and waiting, Thomas' patience has worn thin.
Earlier this week Thomas declared "war" on District Attorney Tony Rackauckas' office during an appearance on KFI's "The John & Ken Show," reports L.A. Now. He accused investigators of "dragging their feet" and wants criminal charges filed against the officers involved in the incident.
Keeping the heat on Rackauckas, Thomas called for a protest in front of the district attorney's Santa Ana office today. In an email announcing the protest, Thomas stated, "We must let him know that we will not go away, and that he must do the right thing."
Released yesterday, Kelly Thomas' medical records detail his fatal injuries and show that he died from "brain death" due to "head trauma" from the beating.
Today's protest, which just wrapped, was slated today from 11am to 2pm.
