House Fire Caused by Swindled Electricity Reveals Marijuana Enterprise
While extinguishing a house fire in Granada Hills this morning, a total of 27 L.A. firefighters uncovered the resident's hobby (or livelihood). Hundreds of marijuana plants crowded the garage. “Initial observation seems to suggest it was a marijuana-plant growing facility,” said Richard French, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department, according to L.A. Now.
A neighbor walking a child to school noticed the fire around 8am on the 11900 block of Paso Robles Avenue and called for help. Crews contained the fire to the garage.
This incident bares striking similarity to yesterday's house fire/marijuana surprise in Rosemead.
But farming weed wasn't the renter's sole illegal practice. Officials identified the cause of the fire as the illegal electricity bypass the renter employed to score free power.
Tenants were not home at the time of the fire. An investigation is underway.
