Cheech Marin not only excels in mean bong rips, he also collects art - lots of it. The comedian/actor/director/writer/musician also defines himself as an ardent Chicano art collector.
The Museum at Forest Lawn in Glendale presents ¡Adelante! Mexican American Artists: 1960s and Beyond, an exhibition showcasing influential work from over 40 prominent Hispanic artists, on Thursday, September 9. Paintings, drawings, sculpture and photography will spice up the space, summoning memories of the rich heritage and history of Mexican Americans, including the Chicano Art Movement that began in the 1960s. Several pieces are loaned from Marin's extensive and eclectic collection, which will show until the exhibition wraps on January 1, 2012. The gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 5pm.
Additionally, Marin will host a conversation with artists Patssi Valdez and Louis Jacinto at Thomas Paul Fine Art on Sunday, September 11, at 2pm. Both artists are featured in the gallery's upcoming exhibition, 80s Portraits, which opens on Saturday, September 17. Seating is limited, so secure your spot with Cheech by calling 323.525.0444.
