Pencil This In: The Moth, Free Wine Tastings, Quincy Jones & A Double Feature

Yes, it's hot out there. But today's torrid temps do not excuse you from exploring the town. Stay cool with free wine tastings at gLAnce Wine Bar. The Moth LA returns to Zanzibar this evening with tales of struggles. Quincy Jones and friends rock the Hollywood Bowl. Plus Hollywood's Egyptian Theatre screens a double feature of 1971 film. So what if your damp clothes cling to your skin and your brows drip with disdain for the weather. We're all suffering together.

STORYTELLING*
The Moth LA returns this evening with a struggles-themed StorySLAM. Brave storytellers will memorize their five-minute, true tales and take the stage - if chosen - at Zanzibar in Santa Monica. Non-storytellers can either volunteer to join a judging team or just sit back and listen (and laugh). Hot dog lovers may devour 100% grass-fed beef franks from the Let's Be Frank food truck. Doors open at 6:45pm. Stories begin at 7:30pm. $8 at the door.

WINE TASTING
Wine Institute honors said exquisite beverage throughout September in California Wine Month. To help celebrate, gLAnce Wine Bar at JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. Live presents its Meet the Winemaker series every Wednesday this month. Guests will sip complimentary wine tastings plus enjoy a sampling of small seasonal bites prepped by the hotel's chef. Tonight's featured winery is Martian Ranch Winery of Santa Barbara County. 5:30pm-7pm. Free.

MUSIC
Quincy Jones and a star-studded line-up take the Hollywood Bowl stage tonight. Featuring The Global Gumbo All-Stars and Friends, the eclectic music event also includes performances by James Ingram, Siedah Garrett, Francisco Mela, Emily Bear and Gloria Estefan, among others. Also slated is a tribute to Michael Jackson's "Thriller." 8pm. Ticket prices range from $1.75 to $141.

FILM
The Egyptian Theatre screens a double feature tonight, honoring the 40th anniversaries of "Vanishing Point" (1971) and "Duel" (1971). 7:30pm-11pm. Tickets cost $11 for general admission, $10 for KCRW, $9 for students and seniors and $7 for members.
