Porn Performer Retests & Declared HIV Negative, Production Resumes

The last couple weeks have been trying for the porn industry. After shutting down following test results which found an adult performer HIV positive, the industry also endured a battle between the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) and Free Speech Coalition, a Canoga Park-based nonprofit and trade group for the adult entertainment industry. But things are looking up for adult film.

As a precaution the performer was retested, and the second batch of results have freed the actor of infection. The performer tested HIV negative, reports Huffington Post.

Production, which has been shut down since last Monday, may now resume.

"The industry will be abundantly cautious as we try to nail down the reasons for what now appears to have been a false positive result on a previous test," said Diane Duke, executive director of Free Speech Coalition.

The performer's name and age has not been released, and though various news sources have identified the performer as male, the coalition continues to decline gender details.

  • The unfolding of this story appears to indicate that the original testing was antibody-based without a confirmatory Western Blot to back it up.  Is this "new test" the Western Blot, or did the industry fudge something (bad word choice, I know) to put minds at ease?
