  • Gothamist weathered through Hurricane Irene with little damage in NYC but the devastation was worse upstate, with damages expected to total $1 billion. One bright spot of Irene was camaraderie—and El Bloombito.

  • DCist, having made it through the week of natural disasters, got back to business as usual — documenting misbehavior in the city’s government, like city Republicans accusing Councilmembers of inappropriately directing funds to partisan groups and a strip club which was built with funds that were supposed to be used to house people with HIV/AIDS.

  • Chicagoist headed into the holiday weekend with the news that the city’s pot smokers pay a lot for their weed.

  • Bostonist was beaten into submission by Hurricane Irene, briefly, this week. Irene turned into a power problem in Massachusetts, except for the Patriots, and truly devastated Vermont. Power outages dwindled throughout the week as questions increased for Hawaii-loving National Grid Massachusetts President Marcy Reed.

  • Austinist got wind of a University of Texas' professor's proposal for legally protecting ugly people.

  • SFist watched at the BART protests turned the inevitable corner to BART counter-protests. (Only two arrests!)

  • We found out that some drivers keep crossbows in their cars just in case they feel the need to fire at boys who throw rocks.
