Flying LAX to China: Woman Shoves Two Endangered Birds in Socks & Tapes Them to Her Limbs
LAX travelers tend to get creative when packing, especially when smuggling live animals.
During a routine pat-down at LAX last Wednesday, August 24, TSA agents discovered two unlikely passengers - bright yellow birds - stuffed in socks and taped to the arm and leg of a female China-bound traveler, reports L.A. Now.
U.S. Fish and Wildlife officers arrested the passenger Wednesday night on suspicion of smuggling goods and exporting an endangered species, said Nico Melendez, a spokesman for the Transportation Security Admininistration.
Both birds appeared to be in good shape after removed from the passenger's limbs. The species of the birds has yet to be reported.
"It was just one of those weird things that happens at our checkpoints," said a TSA spokesman.
