WeHo Duo Launches Campaign for Tastefully Erotic Book & Movie, 'The Puppet Kama Sutra'

BertAndErnieSideBySide_Small.jpg Remember when the Sesame Workshop stated that Bert and Ernie "do not have a sexual orientation?" That statement on their Facebook page, which was in response to an online petition encouraging the televised marriage of the same-sex puppet pals, stirred up quite a bit of controversy. Two West Hollywood residents have launched a new project, proclaiming that the nonprofit does not have the final word on puppet sexuality.

The openly gay WeHo duo plans to create "The Puppet Kama Sutra," a coffee table book and accompanying movie with a mission to "promote puppet sexuality in a healthy light," says today's press release.

“Sure, we let puppets win Tony’s [for Avenue Q], we let them teach our children phonics, but we are offended by puppets physically expressing their love,” lamented Guy Branum, co-creator of the campaign.

The book and movie will "tastefully and artistically depict puppets consensually engaged in all 64 of the ancient sex acts described in the second part of the Kama Sutra."

Hoping to raise $46,969 in funding for original puppet construction, book publishing and movie production costs, the team launched a Kickstarter campaign on Saturday, August 27. In order to receive donations, the monetary goal must be reached in full by Wednesday, September 21.
