Police Sergeant Injured When Hit By 23-Year-Old Drunk Driver
A car crash on Sunday night leaves a Garden Grove police sergeant injured and a 23-year-old Los Angeles man accused of driving under the influence (DUI).
The driver was traveling east on Trask Avenue around 9:35pm in a small four-door sedan and slammed into an unmarked police car heading south on Euclid Avenue, according to The OC Register. The police car ended up in the center median on the south side of the intersection. The sedan came to a halt on the sidewalk after colliding with another object - a fixed carwash sign.
Patrolling at the time of the collision, the police sergeant was not reporting to a dispatched call for service when struck.
Both drivers were taken to a nearby hospital and treated for moderate injuries. While the men are expected to be released on Monday, the 23-year-old man is also expected to be arrested on suspicion of DUI.
The California Highway Patrol and Garden Grove police are investigating the crash and ask witnesses to call 714.741.5704.
