Call the Cops: (fōnuts) Sold So Many Not-Quite-Doughnuts They Are Closing For a Couple of Days
Not donuts...not any left (Julie Wolfson/LAist)
Today, a sign has gone up in their shop (which, by the way, is the former Kiss My Bundt space) window saying they're taking a couple of days off and will re-open on Wednesday August 31st, according to EaterLA. "PR says the cafe closed today to 'regroup and restock after a crazy first week due to the high volume of sales,'" they add. In the future, the shop will regularly take Tuesdays off, incidentally.
It is pretty wild to think these kinda pricey little treats (which do taste good, we acknowledge) are such a wild success.
Since Midtown Lunch L.A. nods to our 7 Reasons to Love L.A. with their "7 Reasons to Hate L.A. (Lunching, That Is)" series, we'll nod back at them with their #1 reason last week:
Oh Los Angeles, sometimes the things you flock to in droves are so silly. If I cut a baked potato into strips, it doesn’t make it french fries. It’s just cake people. Maybe it’s the best cake ever made, but it ain’t doughnuts. And people should not be this excited about this in THE GREATEST DOUGHNUT CITY IN THE WORLD! The biggest irony? (Besides the fact that the calorie info on these things will likely make you throw up the 4 fonuts you ate this morning.) It’s replacing a shop that failed selling bundt cakes, which are wait for it baked cakes cut into the shape of a doughnut! Huzzah for brilliant marketing.
Hmmm. Would an L.A. Dunkin' Donuts ever close for 2 days to regroup? And do L.A. cops prefer faux-donuts to the real thing?
