Last night, a couple from Valencia was struck by a van during an evening ride through Lancaster organized by a local bike shop.

The couple came into harm's way, according to the Los Angeles Times, while they were on a bike ride with about 20 other people.

The group was passing through the intersection of Avenue L and 4th Street West in Lancaster last night around 8 p.m. at the same time as a minivan was crossing. A second car hit the minivan, which pushed it into the cyclists' path.

The man is listed in critical condition, because of the head injuries that he sustained from the collision. His wife was hospitalized with moderate injuries.

Witnesses are being asked to call the sheriff's department at (661) 948-8466.
