The Echo and Echoplex are opening their doors this weekend to several bands originally slated to rock the cancelled Sunset Junction Festival. If you haven't heard by now, the L.A. Board of Public Works denied the festival's permit on Wednesday.

Butthole Surfers and 400 Blows will take the Echoplex stage on Saturday. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Charles Bradley will perform on Sunday. The Echo also features bands on Saturday: Geotic, The One AM Radio and Dntel.

Additionally, several store-parties have popped up after news of the street fair's cancellation.

"Strangely, it's bringing everyone together even more," says Neil Schield, owner of Origami Vinyl who is also coordinating a handful of bands playing at retail stores in Echo Park that are in close proximity to the venues Echo and Echoplex. "We all just thought, why not make it a block party and have some fun. Make it closer to what Sunset Junction used to be like."

Tickets are available through TicketWeb, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to 826LA, a non-profit writing and tutoring center.

Dry those tears, music lovers. There will be tunes. Oh yes. There will be tunes.
