A Few Benjamins For Your Eats: Which CA Restaurants Are Among The Most Expensive In America?
Three of California's upscale eateries rank among the top ten of Bundle's "The 25 Most Expensive Restaurants in America." Six other Golden State restaurants also made the list.
Santa Monica's Melisse won sixth place with an average check size of $576. Offering a vegetarian tasting menu at $105 per diner plus a regular menu at $115 per diner, Melisse also tempts patrons with $185 caviar and other items excluded from the menu price.
Michael Mina in San Francisco ranks third, ringing in a check average of $844. The Japanese and French influenced cuisine boasts decent dish prices, so diners must be ordering an assortment of plates and/or imbibing in the many cocktail options to reach such a grand total.
Thomas Keller's The French Laundry in Yountville, CA near Napa topped the charts with an astounding $957 average check size. After perusing the menu, this mighty total makes perfect sense. The prix fixe menu costs $270 per diner, which landed it as the third most expensive in America, with additional supplements ranging from $30-$50. For those desiring wine or champagne with their meals, the cheapest full bottle available is priced at $60. The wine list is overwhelmingly (and impressively) extensive.
Keller's Bouchon Bakery opens Wednesday in Beverly Hills. Sweet tooth sufferers rejoice. Come tomorrow you can load up on $957 worth of lemon and chocolate tarts, macarons plus chocolate and coffee eclairs for, you know, the sake of tradition.
