Silver Lake Burrito King to Reopen as Mexican Restaurant

The Silver Lake stand formerly known as Burrito King is under new ownership and will debut as something new within the next couple weeks, according to The Eastsider.

The late night favorite, located on Hyperion and Rowena, has recently undergone a change to its exterior, including neon green walls and a new roof. When it reopens, under the leadership of the same folks who are in charge of Tomato Pie down the street, it will be a Mexican restaurant:

The new restaurant will be called Mixto Comida Latina, which will serve tacos, tortas, burritos and other Mexican food made with grass-fed beef and sustainable foods, said co owner Garrett Policastrow. He and business partner Freddy Suarez expect to open Mixto in about two weeks.

  • Xbaytraite you are obviously not a Native Los Angelean like me and woul;dn't know Mexican Food from Taco Bell.  Stay off the booze and out of that sleazy MJs and you might know the difference.

  • What a shame.  My Burrito King RIP, I've loved you for 30 years now these anorexic grungy hipsters are moving you out for what?  A pukey green paint job and higher prices for food that isn't even Mexican.   If I had wanted health food I would toddle my butt across the street to Trader Joes for a veggie anything.  I want my old bean & cheese smothered in red sauce BACK!   Jesus, what next?  Parking permits like West Hollywood?  OY VEY this area is tanking fast, first the Coffee Table bites it now this?

  • another place falls to yuppy gentrification, nothing new here. I hope they sell a taco for what a taco is worth $1

  • exbaytriate

i don't know about anyone else, but good effing riddance. i tried on more than one occasion to end a night of heavy drinking with burrito king and i always ended up wishing it was a taco bell.

the tomato pie guys got it right with the pizza, let's see how this place works out. bonus points if it stays open past midnight.

  • This is a travesty. The best hard shell taco in LA is now gone. "Grass-fed beef and sustainable foods"..... time to move to the valley....
