Motorist Shot Last Week In Silver Lake To Be Taken Off Life Support, Organs Donated

Juan David Vasquez Loma, the 25-year-old former employee of El Chavo and Garage Pizza who was shot in the head while driving on Silver Lake Boulevard last week, will be taken off life support and his organs donated, according to Echo Park Patch.

Earlier in the week NBC LA reported that the victim had died. Technically, Loma was declared “brain dead” noted The Eastsider LA, however his body was kept on life support so family members traveling from Mexico could decide about organ donation.

Juan David has remained on life support at County USC Medical Center for the past week while his mother traveled from Mexico. Her decision to donate his organs will save up to five lives, according to Tusquellas.

Juan David’s body will be transported to the LAPD morgue following Sunday’s surgery. The Mexican Consulate will then aid with his transportation back to Mexico, where he will be buried, according to Tusquellas.

Police believe the attack was a possible road rage incident. El Chavo and Garage Pizza have set up a fund to help with medical and bereavement costs Contributions can be made at any Citibank branch, at El Chavo (4441 Sunset Blvd.) or Garage Pizza (4339 Sunset Blvd.)

    I'm so sad for Juan David and his family. What a terrible thing that happened to him. I am glad, though, that his family is so big-hearted to donate his organs and save the lives of several other people. It's a wonderful, selfless act.
