'Clean and Beautiful Glendale' To Install Pet Poo Stations

Glendale's "Clean and Beautiful Glendale" initiative tackles the issue of public pet waste. Officials plan to install ten pet waste stations in neighborhoods to assist residents in doing what so many L.A. pet owners fail to do - clean up after their dogs, reports Glendale News-Press.

Residents requesting a station on their block must pay a one-time $200 donation to cover depository station installation costs and are responsible for reporting vandalism or needed repairs.

Ten individuals or residential groups have committed to sponsorship, despite some locals declining to pay the donation fee.

“We wanted to make sure that it was not only a feasible program, but that the program would be sustainable,” said Phillipe Eskandar, a program specialist with the city’s Neighborhood Services division who is overseeing the program. “With the way things are these days, program sustainability is essential.”

The first stations are slated for installation by mid-September.

“We are hoping to install within the next four weeks or so,” Eskandar said.
