Classic comedy never completely fades, and a recent script deal between Sony Pictures Television and CBS has us slapping our knees in excitement (and doubt).

With the twitches of a few entertainment executives' noses, CBS has ordered a script from Sony for a remake of Bewitched, reports Variety.

The famous comedic sitcom enjoyed an eight-season run on ABC beginning in 1964. However, Bewitched on the silver screen in 2005 failed to wow viewers. Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher, the married couple behind the film version, are onboard as Executive Producers as is Marc Lawrence, who will write the script.

Sony has reportedly sold over a dozen half-hour comedy scripts this summer. We're ready for some golden guffaws, showbiz.

Gee, if it's successful, will we see an "I Dream of Jeannie" remake as well?

I think these would be interesting - at least for a little while - if they tried to "cover" an original episode. Some of the original scripts were quite good, and seeing a new cast take on the old scripts - word for word - would give us a chance to really see how the production measures up against the original.

That said, I'd cast Dietrich Bader and Olivia Wilde.

  • Jim Carrey and Julia Louis-Dreyfus
without a doubt. Cast them, you have a hit.

  • The inability of entertainment execs to have an original thought continues.
