L.A. County Crime Rates Escalate This Summer, Is Your 'Hood In The Red?

Crime alerts soar this summer in Los Angeles, and several neighborhoods are seeing a significant increase in both violent and property crimes.

Areas experiencing a surge in violent crimes are Hancock Park, Hollywood, Panorama City and Sawtelle. Red alerts of "violent crime up significantly" are viewable in each location via The L.A. Time's database of Los Angeles County crime reports.

Hollywood violent crimes rates jumped to 24 between July 22 and July 28. Property crimes remained average at 62.

Neighborhoods with "property crime up significantly" alerts include Beverly Crest, Chinatown, Harbor Gateway, Pacoima, Playa Vista and Valley Village.

Playa Vista's property crimes hiked to 10 between July 23 and July 29; only one violent crime was committed.

Westlake, a neighborhood in the Central L.A. region of L.A. County, shows increases in both violent and property crimes. Between July 23 and July 29, 20 violent crimes were reported along with 43 property crimes. This averages out to be 5.4 crimes per 10,000 people.

Take caution, Angelenos.

  • If you think the map above is off you are right. Follow the link for the real red areas.

  • Yep ...lots of break-ins recently in Valley Village.  My neighbor across the street had his apartment broken into during broad daylight.

Traffic-wise, we live on a very busy street, which made it all the more unnerving.
