LAst Night's Action: Kershaw Complete for Dodgers

LA Dodgers defeat San Diego Padres 6-2. Padres’ starter Cory Luebke’s night started to fall apart in the fifth inning. After Jamey Carroll led off the inning with a double, Luebke’s inexperience allowed the Dodgers to break the game open. Clayton Kershaw laid down a bunt along the third base line that was going foul. However before the ball had a chance to cross the line, Luebke picked it up and threw to first. Only the throw was high, and Kershaw was safe on first.

Dee Gordon’s fielders’ choice, a wild pitch and Casey Blake’s sacrifice gave the Dodgers the 4-1 lead they wouldn’t look back from.

Meanwhile Clayton Kershaw tossed a complete game striking out only four batters but making only 108 pitches for his fourth complete game of the season and fifth in his career.

“It was a battle the whole night,” Kershaw said on the postgame show on Prime Ticket. “I really just had one pitch. Fortunate for me they were swinging early.”

One person swinging well as of late has been Matt Kemp who went 2-for-4 (he was a single and homer short of the cycle) scoring twice and knocking in a run.

After Rubby De La Rosa’s disappointing performance Sunday afternoon, he was placed on the disabled list with a sore elbow. John Ely will be brought up to replace him.

UPDATE: De La Rosa has a sprained ligament in his elbow according to MRI results and might need surgery.
