Erwin Molina, a twenty-something hiker, fell 35 feet to his death on Sunday while hiking a popular waterfall trail in Eaton Canyon Park in the Pasadena foothills, according to the LA Times.

Molina was reportedly hiking the waterfall trail with three other companions when he lost his footing and fell to the rocky canyon bottom, said Lisa Derderian, spokeswoman for the Pasadena Fire Department. The trail crosses several streams and two waterfalls. Molina fell near the first waterfall, located 1.5 miles from the trailhead.

"It's a narrow canyon with beautiful scenery,'' she said. "But the terrain can be tricky."

After being taken to a hospital with critical injuries, Molina died a short time later. Molina's age and residence have yet to be confirmed.

The incident marks the first fatality in 2011 at the heavily used trail, said Derderian.

There's a spot on that trail above the first waterfall where you basically grab a rock and swing yourself from one part of the trail to another while hanging over the canyon floor. Or rather, there used to be i havent been there in quite a while. It's a little scary. Wouldn't surprise me if that's where he fell.
