The shopping event of the summer has arrived. Unique LA launches its first-ever summer show this weekend at Barker Hangar at the Santa Monica Air Center. As mentioned earlier this month, the event invites shoppers to peruse goods by over 225 local designers and artists. Featured products include, but are certainly not limited to, fashion, jewelry, stationary, housewares and gourmet edibles.
Highlights boast eats, bevs, workshops, free fair tickets, a photo booth plus an unbeatable atmosphere.
*Eat at the "Truck Stop" featuring the Grilled Cheese Truck, Naan Stop, Great Balls on Wheels, The Flying Pig and others.*Complimentary beer and wine garden by Black Star Beer and The Naked Grape Wine.
*Every half-hour, the Urban Craft Center will feature free workshops needle felting adorable mini toadstools and cupcakes. The Craft and Folk Art Museum will guide people through creating a brooch or headpiece out of recycled fabrics (there will be fabric available or you can bring your own!).
*A free ticket to the OC Fair with every admission (while supplies last).
*Get your portrait taken (with outlandish props, of course!) in the free photo booth.
*Enjoy ocean breezes and people-watching in the historic venue, the Barker Hangar, (usually reserved for film shoots and private invite-only parties) former home to DC3's in the 1960s and Howard Hughes' private plane in the 1970s.
Sonja Rasula, founder of Unique LA, shares with us her picks for hot vendors.
"I can't think of two better things than neon and aztec patterns, and Voz Clothing and Art has combined them on their eye-popping wooden bangles. I also really love COATT's morse code necklaces. We brought in some new vendors for men this show, such as Hugh Simms and Pocket Square Clothing. Heroes and Tails makes amazing modern leather goods for people and pets. I'm also excited about 3 Fish Studios who will be joining us from San Francisco."
The third annual spring show attracted an impressive crowd, and organizers are anxious to see who flocks to the westside this weekend.
