The manhunt continues for the suspect who shot a 44-year-old woman in Marina del Rey last Thursday, July 21.

David Boufford, the victim's neighbor, has launched MdR Cares, a donation effort urging the Marina del Rey community to pledge support and donations to assist in her recovery. He asks that supporters give at least $20. Boufford details his mission on the website.

"My goal is to raise an immediate $100,000 dollars and whatever is not needed by my friend will go to other individuals who need support in a crisis. I am building a team and network to help think this all out and set up this Community Resources that will be available to all Marina del Rey residents that need a little help. If we all Give A Little, We Can All Help A Lot!"

A website update from this morning states that the victim has endured extensive nerve damage to her digestive system as a result of the shooting. She has been placed back on a feeding tube and has temporarily lost mobility in her right leg.

This Saturday, July 30th, MdR Cares is hosting a fundraiser and community potluck to raise money and awareness. This event is exclusive to building residents and their guests and is closed to the general public.

*Ed note: A previous version of this post stated that Saturday's event is open to the public. We have been informed that the event is now closed to the public and open only to building residents and their guests.

  • Bad plan - inviting the GENERAL public to case the joint. I am a resident and believe this is a terrible idea. Raising money? No problem, but inviting the world to see how easy it is to get in and rob people (watch any clip on news and you'll see what I mean)  is really bad judgement especially in light of the new information on public record from the sheriff that this was not a random crime. Prayers continue for our neighbor and her complete restoration of her health as well as justice served for the perpetrator.
