L.A. County's First Off-Leash Dog Park Approved
Good news for frisky canines! Funding for L.A. County's first off-leash area for dogs in a county park was approved yesterday by the Board of Supervisors. This is not the first off-leash park in Los Angeles, as the City of L.A. offers several off-leash dog parks at Griffith Park Dog Park, Sepulveda Basin Off-Leash Dog Park, Laurel Canyon Dog Park, Runyon Canyon Dog Park and more. But this is the first county-run park where your furry companion can run free.
The Crescenta Valley Dog Park will encompass 1.5 acres of the northwest section of the Crescenta Valley Community Regional Park. Small and large dogs will have separate entrances. The park will also include drinking fountains, water faucets, hose-down stations for dirty pooches, shady areas, walkways and benches for owners.
With $645,000 in excess funding available under the Safe Neighborhood Park Proposition, the park will be constructed by the Los Angeles Conservation Corp.
"The Crescenta Valley Dog Park will serve as a pilot program," said Russ Guiney, Director of Parks and Recreation for the county, as reported by CBS LA.
Additional improvements will be made to the existing parking lot to bring it up to code with the Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
