Ay, Boo Boo! How About A Pic-A-Nic Basket In Hollywood Forever Cemetery?

A-tisket a-tasket, grab your picnic basket and head to Hollywood Forever Cemetery. As part two of their Guide to Summer series, Flavorwire scoured the nation for the top picnic spots. L.A.'s beloved graveyard slash meeting ground for Cinespia outdoor movie screenings made the cut.

It’s hard to beat the Cinespia outdoor screenings in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. If you get there at dusk, you can stroll past the graves of entertainment greats and visit the peacocks who roam the grounds daily. Before the movie, a DJ typically spins beats while folks chomp on dinner. It can be eerie to picnic at night in a cemetery, but watching Easy Rider or Harold and Maude projected against the side of a mausoleum ends up feeling quite life affirming.

Thanks, Jane McCarthy. We concur.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery is the only SoCal spot favored, but two NorCal locations - Stinson Beach near San Fran and Preston Vineyards in Healdsburg - scored mentions.

Other nods include Governors Island in NYC, The Yards Park in D.C., George Island near Boston Harbor, Chicago's Northerly Island and Belle Isle in Detroit.

What other prime L.A. picnicking spots did they miss?

The Hollywood Bowl, of course. Good list, though.

  • Wow, the Photographer got some really shitty seats!
