Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Done? U.S. Post Office Considering Closing Over 30 Area Locations
The United States Post Office has released their list of the 3,700 locations nationwide they are considering closing in order to stave off further revenue loss. Already prepping the public to lose Saturday delivery, and citing a marked increase in online communication, the USPS has been steadily losing money in recent years, and it's not getting better.
In Los Angeles and Orange counties, over 30 locations are on the list of California post offices that could get the axe.
The USPS says they are eying these particular locations because most of them "take in less than $27,500 a year and have only enough customers and mail to keep them busy two hours a day," reports USA Today. They'll be reviewing each site to determine if closure is a good decision; customers who object to their location being shut down have 60 days to submit comments to the USPS.
Though fewer people are using the USPS for mailing items, there is typically a large, vocal reaction to news any locations could be shut down. When the USPS last named a batch of 1,400 locations on the chopping block earlier this year they ultimately shut down just 280.
