It's no secret that California fries and grills up some of the tastiest fish tacos worldwide. Sunset magazine's "Top 41 Road Food Spots in the West" from their July 2011 issue awards three golden state eateries for the best in this culinary delight.

One L.A. spot made the cut - Reel Inn in Malibu, CA. Here's what Sunset had to say.

Fish tacos are the Steve McQueen of road food: casual and cool. Surfers were the first to discover them, at snack shacks like Reel Inn. Today, they’re still a fixture on its chalkboard menu: fresh-caught salmon or ahi tuna wrapped in warm corn tortillas with melted cheddar, crisp lettuce, tomato, and salsa. The setting helps, of course. The best fish tacos (with one notable exception, below) are eaten within sight of the ocean.

The notable exception is Lupita’s Cantina of Oak Creek, CO. But back to the state at hand.

Also on the fish taco list are Ruddell's Smokehouse in Cayocus, CA and South Beach Bar & Grille in San Diego, a Sunset reader favorite.

California eateries in other categories also wowed Sunset's taste buds.

Breakfast
Fremont Diner - Sonoma, CA (Sunset reader favorite)
Orange Inn - Laguna Beach, CA

Hamburgers
The Peg House - Leggett, CA (Sunset reader favorite)

Shakes
Gott's Roadside - St. Helena, CA
Shields Date Garden - Indio, CA

Pies
Linn's - Cambria, CA (Sunset reader favorite)
Mom's Apple Pie - Sebastopol, CA

Reel Inn's fish tacos may be the best in the land, but their prices definitely aren't the lowest. An order of fish tacos will set you back $10.95.

Angelenos, your mission is clear. Slip into a suit, slide on your shades and head north (or south) on PCH. Reel Inn awaits.

i happened by this place in malibu recently, tried the fish tacos (knowing nothing of them previously) and thought, hands down, these are the most disgusting fish tacos i've ever eaten. it was like...shredded salmon topped with shredded cheddar cheese that clearly came out of a bag.
