Murder Not So Foul: Woman Allegedly Stabs Husband to Death in Self-Defense

A woman arrested on suspicion of murdering her estranged husband has been released after authorities determined that she acted in self-defense, reports L.A. Now.

The couple was living apart, according to ABC7, when Hekima Batiste, 37, allegedly forced his way into her apartment at 1:00 a.m. this morning. According to police, she then fatally stabbed him, and he was found by authorities already dead on the floor of the apartment. The woman's name is being withheld under state law.

According to authorities, the couple had been married for about a year and the wife had been the victim of domestic violence.

She was released on the basis of accounts from witnesses, and the case will be heard by the LA County district attorney’s office.
