spcaLA Urges Governor Brown's Support Of Animal Rights Bill

Currently awaiting signature on Governor Brown's desk sits Senate Bill 917. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles (spcaLA) encourages citizens to contact Governor Brown in support of this bill.

Bill 917 would make the punishments for those convicted of animal neglect on par with those issued for intentional animal cruelty. Neglected animals suffer from a lack of life's basic needs: shelter, food, water and veterinary care.

Furthermore, Bill 917 aims to ban the sale of animals in back alleys, parking lots, carnivals and other public spaces. Animals sold in these environments are often sick, underage and rarely spayed, neutered or given veterinary care, according to Madeline Bernstein, President of spcaLA.
