The Dog Days: OC Pet Shelter Hopes to Find Homes for 63 Dogs in 63 Days

For dogs, summer can be the worst time to be without a home, as it's the slowest season for adoption, reports the OC Register. To combat the problem, a local German Shepherd Rescue group is trying to adopt 63 dogs in 63 days -- between July 9 and Labor Day -- in an effort to make room for more who need temporary homes.

Coastal German Shepherd Rescue, based on Lake Forest, is offering adoptions for a reduced fee of $100, which includes spay/neutering, vaccines and a microchip for all dogs over the age of four months.

The group reports that in addition to the slower adoptions over the summer, the number of dogs that need homes has been increasing in recent years. According to the Register:

The group now has 120 dogs — almost double the amount of the about 75 dogs usually available at this time.

At the kickoff event on Saturday, five dogs found homes.
