West Side Establishments Shamelessly Lure Angelenos Into Carmageddon
This weekend's impending Carmageddon has spurred a host of deals throughout the city, luring Angelenos from their safe abodes to various restaurants, bars, malls and amusement parks. Despite the city's caveats to refrain from driving this weekend, western establishments are offering some tempting (and slightly absurd) specials.
Pacific Park, home of the solar-powered Pacific Wheel, targets San Fernando Valley guests with the promise of a free unlimited ride pass for all three days. Other guests who purchase this pass will receive a free orange cotton candy, signifying a construction cone. Perhaps Santa Monica assumes valley residents will enjoy driving back and forth from July 15 through July 17 or will curl up under the pier each night.
Third Street Promenade's Italian eatery Locanda del Lago offers an appropriately themed food and beverage menu during the three days in hopes of easing the pain of the 405 closure. Treats include $4.05 Stuzzichini (Italian small plates) and a trio of clever cocktails: Car-prese Martini, Car-pirinha and Blackberry Car-garita. This sounds like the perfect opportunity for locals to dust off their bicycles and responsibly indulge.
Westfield Shopping Centers tempt visitors with an entire weekend of giveaways, entertainment, special offers and relaxation. On a side note, Carmageddon is an antonym of relaxation. Participating centers include Westfield Century City, Westfield Culver City and Westfield Fashion Square. Claiming to be an enjoyable escape for shoppers, these events still require a car, plus the Culver City location is located east-adjacent to the 405 Freeway.
