Powerful People (Dance) Director Miguel Gutierrez Comes To Town

Promotional materials reveal that the work is set to music sung by renowned soprano Cecilia Bartoli and unfolds from a rambling monologue addressing the artists’ ascension to success, the hypocrisies of an unstable world, artistic critiques, and dreams and desires of a more personal nature. (Sounds quite Kerouacian!)
Gutierrez says his goal is to create challenging and thought-provoking performance experiences and adds:
I make performances that are about things and are things themselves. The things they are about are big: how to live in the world, how to love, how to feel about being yourself. Probably the biggest question I make art about is: Why are we alive. I am a dancer. I write poems. I make songs and music with my voice and rudimentary knowledge of instruments. I think that we are all powerful people.
With all the East Coast fanfare that precedes him, this ought to be something not to be missed!
