Brooklyn-based solo dance artist and Powerful People company director Miguel Gutierrez is coming to LA this weekend for two shows in the historic Palm Court ballroom of the Alexandria Hotel (downtown). Brought into our midst by Meg Wolfe's Show Box LA, the highly acclaimed and extensively awarded performer/creator will present the LA premiere of his solo, HEAVENS WHAT HAVE I DONE in this location.

Promotional materials reveal that the work is set to music sung by renowned soprano Cecilia Bartoli and unfolds from a rambling monologue addressing the artists’ ascension to success, the hypocrisies of an unstable world, artistic critiques, and dreams and desires of a more personal nature. (Sounds quite Kerouacian!)

Gutierrez says his goal is to create challenging and thought-provoking performance experiences and adds:

I make performances that are about things and are things themselves. The things they are about are big: how to live in the world, how to love, how to feel about being yourself. Probably the biggest question I make art about is: Why are we alive. I am a dancer. I write poems. I make songs and music with my voice and rudimentary knowledge of instruments. I think that we are all powerful people.

With all the East Coast fanfare that precedes him, this ought to be something not to be missed!
