Two Alhambra police officers collided around 2:30am on Sunday morning near the intersection of North Garfield Avenue and East Main Street while responding to a reported possible robbery in the rear parking lot area of 100 North First Street. One officer ran a red light, causing the collision and the unfortunate death of Officer Ryan Stringer, age 26.

Treated at the scene by the Alhambra Fire Department paramedics, both officers were immediately rushed to Huntington Memorial Hospital. Stringer died at the hospital from his injuries. Officer Juan Carlos Mejia, 27, remains in stable condition.

Governor Brown issued the following statement yesterday: "Anne and I extend our deep condolences to Officer Stringer's family, friends and colleagues. In the prime of his life he made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of protecting his community."
