Classical Pick of the Week: Turandot

If you want to stay as far away from the 405 as possible, Dudamel is conducting Puccini's Turandot next Sunday at the Hollywood Bowl (the video is Pavarotti performing the iconic "Nessun dorma" from Turandot with Zubin Mehta and the NY Phil).

Joining Dudamel in this production are Christine Brewer, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and Los Angeles Children's Choir. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., and unless you're planning to walk from home, make sure you have your route planned ahead of time.

If you can't get to the Bowl on Sunday, Lang Lang comes to the Bowl with Dudamel in a performance of Prokofiev's Piano Concerto no. 3 in C Minor. Those performances are on Tuesday and Thursday.

  • LOL Westfadeaway...the Met would work.  ;)

How about a couple amazing classical shows that *aren't* during Carmaggedon?  There's Gustavo and Lang Lang this week to open the season, plus a Mozart and Strauss concert later in the month (two of my faves - I'll be working the shows!).  You can find out more info here
http://www.Hbowl.com/Gustavo ...tickets start super cheap, and you can buy at box office to further skip TM fees.  :)

@yahoo-EVXTXX2AKWKUP2VC3C5WSWYPXQ:disqus I have my Dudamel/Lang Lang, Dudamel/Mozart, and Sibelius Symphony tix already - I'll see you there!!!  Love you in Bill & Ted (and Lost Boys)!!  What do you do for work there?

I'm all for attending great shows at the bowl but I don't think this should be billed as "as far away from the 405 as possible" since anyone going from the valley to the OC direction will take the 101 and 5.  I think seeing an opera at the Met would be a little further away.
