Here's Why The 110 Freeway Was Shut Down This Morning

We caught some murmurings on Twitter mid-morning today about the 110 Freeway in South L.A. being at a standstill, and now more information is available about what ended up being a total shutdown of the road. Authorities say they were conducting a search on the Harbor Freeway in the vicinity of the 10 Freeway, when during the course of a pursuit they saw the suspects tossing guns or ammunition onto the road, according to ABC7.

The pursuit started up as police took a call about "a gunman in an orange safety vest who threatened a man in downtown L.A. at about 8:15 a.m."

That suspect, in a van, got on the 110 Freeway, and headed south into South L.A, and then east onto the 91 Freeway, ultimately ending in Carson, where three men were taken into custody without incident.

The 110 Freeway was shut down to accommodate the search, and while it is not known if any evidence was collected, the busy road was reopened at around 11 a.m.
