New York Mets defeat LA Dodgers 5-3. If you have nothing good to say, don’t say anything at all. To quote manager Don Mattingly after the game, “We have to keep going, and we have to play in a way that tells ourselves that we are going somewhere. That’s what we have to do.” The Dodgers are 9-18 in their last 27 games dating exactly one month.

Detroit Tigers defeat LA Angels 5-4. Miguel Cabrera was silent in the prior two games of this series going 0-for-3 in both games. It was only time until he was roused. After Austin Jackson scored on Andy Dirks single in the seventh inning off of reliever Hisanori Takahashi, Cabrera blasted a two-run bomb off of Michael Kohn to give the Tigers the 5-3 lead. Mark Trumbo hit a solo shot off of Tigers’ starter Brad Penny in the bottom half of the seventh, but that was all the Angels could muster. Tyler Chatwood went 5 1/3 innings giving up two unearned runs on four hits and a season-high five walks.

Chivas USA defeat San Jose Earthquakes 2-0. Ben Zemanski (64’) and Nick LaBrocca (84’) got the goals in front of the 9,425 home crowd with Dan Kennedy making three saves in his shutout.
