Tourist Boat Capsizes Off Baja, 1 Dead, 8 Missing
The nationality of the one fatality was not known, however seven of the eight people missing after a tourist boat capsized off Mexico's Baja California peninsula are American, according to CNN.
U.S. and Mexican authorities were scouring the seas Monday for eight people -- seven of them Americans -- missing more than a day after their tourist boat capsized off the east coast of Mexico's Baja California peninsula, an official said.At least one of the 44 people who were aboard the fishing boat was dead.
The U.S. Coast Guard sent a helicopter Monday to assist the Mexican navy in the effort, said Petty Officer 2nd Class Henry Dunphy, a spokesman for the Coast Guard in San Diego, citing the Mexican navy.
The fishing boat, after running into "some bad weather," sank at approximately 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the Sea of Cortez, near Isla San Luis, according to the Coast Guard. Several of the 44 aboard swam to shore and walked to the closest town to alert the Mexican navy.
