Metrolink & AEG Want Your Butts In Seats, Announce Transit Partnership

L.A. Live, STAPLES Center, and, someday, Farmers Field: Downtown's megavenues draw crowds, and AEG and Metrolink want those crowds to get there using public transit. A partnership has been born between the two companies, who are putting together "a comprehensive five- county transportation plan to encourage Southern Californians to take public transportation when they attend events at L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles," according to a release issued today.

The plan is based on incentives, for example bundling transit fare with tickets to events. Concerts, Clippers and Kings games, and next month's X Games are among the events for which the partnership is working to set up ticket plus transit deals.

Metrolink Chairman Richard Katz says the incentives to get butts seats at events and on public transit stems from a shared desire by public agencies and private companies to help people save money on gas and parking while lessening the negative environmental impact of traffic congestion.

I've taken public transportation to X Games before and it's perfect. Even better now since X Games17 isnt at Home Depot Center. It's ONLY downtown. That includes rally, enduro, and moto-x (at staples). I will be taking my kids all 4 days (7/28- 7/31). Can you tell?? I am way excited for this year! No driving!

Here's your route:
   take metrolink to union station (say from fullerton)
   transfer at union station to red line subway
   transfer to blue line at 7th and metro center

Arrive at staples center. will people choose to make all those transfers to get there? probably not..

MTA wants us to use their trains more, but Angelenos like to stay out past 12 midnight. Stay open late on weekends at least!

Metrolink trains departing past 9pm would help too. I'd take it into L.A. from Santa Clarita all the time if I wasn't stranded post-event.
