Did Bryan Stow Taunt Hometown Fans By Saying He'd Rather Eat Shit Than a Dodger Dog?

Before someone picked up their cellphone camera to capture the scene in the stands at Dodger Stadium when a Dodgers fan and Giants fan Bryan Stow got into a confrontation, Stow allegedly taunted the hometown spectators by screaming "I rather eat my own feces than eat a Dodger dog," according to TMZ.

The subjective deliciousness of our famed stadium hot dogs aside, as TMZ points out, the information about Stow's reported demeanor at the game prior to the brutal parking lot attack that has left him hospitalized indicates that he may have been a bit of a rival team d-bag.

The man in the confrontation video is not "prime suspect" Giovanni Ramirez, but rather Juan Banda, from whom TMZ says they have text messages between he and a friend after the video clip aired on the gossip TV show.

A friend of Banda's texted him that he saw Banda on TMZ. Banda texted back "They are not saying they are looking for me....right? Reason I was arguing w him was because he [Stow] crossed the line ... he yelled out, 'I rather eat my own ficies (sic) than eat a dodger dog.'"

Banda continued, "I asked Merced [a friend Banda was with at the game] to watch my back and told him [Stow] it was one thing to root for your team but you are crosing (sic) the line ... he didn't say much ... neither him or his buddies who were with him ... they were just trying to excuse his words."

Banda continued texting: "Nothing happen and I went back to my seat. ... What I can't understand is where were his buddies when that [the attack] happened ... he was not alone during the game ... he was with 3 or 4 friends ... he did have a mouth though!"

And Banda texted, "Maybe he said the wrong thing to the wrong guys!"

While being mouthy about your favorite ball team is both your right and jerky, it doesn't mean you deserve a severe beat down.

Though the Los Angeles Police Department say they are reviewing the video footage from Stow's confrontation with Banda, Banda has in no way been implicated in the beating. While Ramirez remains a suspect, he has not been charged in the case.

  • Again, this is in no way condoning the beat down that Bryan Stow received and the perps who committed the act should be prosecuted to fullest extent.

That said.......DO NOT GO TO OUT OF TOWN GAMES AND TALK SMACK!  You really do take your life into your own hands when you do this.  Now, granted, we don't see these problems at our beloved Angels Stadium because OUR owners didn't sacrifice security for greed (yes, I am looking at you, Frank McCourt).  But we get mouthy Sox fans and Yankees fans and you just have to suck in your annoyance when they pop off.  Add beer to the mix and it REALLY gets bad!

Baseball is suppose to be a fun outing, not a war.

  •  You don't see these problems at Angel Stadium? Huh? Are you forgetting the 2009 season
    http://laist.com/2009/06/26/fa...

When one person actually died from a fight IN the park. Then a week or so later two people were shot by an off duty officer in a fight after the game in the parking lot....

Angel stadium isn't any better when it comes to safety.

  • He didn't deserve to be 'beaten' up for being a drunk douchebag disrespecting the hometown fans, and being obnoxious. Maybe his convicted assault against a woman was karma paying him back? Bryan Stow also did not deserve having his so called buddies, all of 4 them, bail on him, leaving him there to be beaten severely by 2 thugs, or maybe they know something about him we don't know. If you ask me I think it was two groups of drunk hooligans shooting their stupid mouths off, with one group losing control of themselves, and the other group running away from the trouble they probably started in the first place. 'Attack' is the word they keep using most, but in all my years of going to Dodger Stadium, never have I seen, or heard of anyone being attacked for wearing the visiting team's jersey; I've only seen fights, and always one guy taking more of a beating. The media and LAPD did a great job of hiding important facts to this case. I have yet to hear or read a name of an actual eyewitness saying it was an 'attack.' We only know what the media has told us, and they only know from what the LAPD decided to tell, and not tell, them. People need to use discretion and know sports fan etiquette, and watch your buddies' backs, when you're from out of town visiting an event where the crowds are large, and people are drinking. And if your visiting team loses the game you need to know the hometown fans are going to razz you after the game, so be good sports and understand it is tradition, and nothing personal. Thanks for putting a dark cloud over our season, thugs, bad visitors, and poor outside stadium security.

"If you ask me....." NO ONE DID. Evidently you are another one that was there, with both groups, all day, and have 1st hand knowledge of this event. Read his friend's version and then tell me it wasn't an "attack". The media isn't the only source of information. Your description of his "conviction" regarding an assault against a woman is laughable as well. You are an ignorant, uninformed, juvenile name-caller who needs to find a life. Maybe Paramedic school so you can see what it takes to care for others while risking your own life on each and every call, and what it takes to be a MAN. It's funny how this article head uses the word s*it, and witnesses who were sitting in the same section as Bryan & his friends state that he didn't even use that swear word when joking about the stupid hot dog. Now I'm going to be a name caller since you seem to have 1st hand knowledge that the guys were intoxicated and being "obnoxious". You are an ignorant moron. Look in the mirror. Beaten into a coma as "karma" for having a dispute with his then wife?? That's not the world I live in. I'm sure his children's Mother would agree with us on that subject. Get you facts straight.

Perhaps the solution would be to stop serving BEER at the games.

  • You might as well just cancel baseball.

It's fine if you want to root for the Giants, but talking smack about our hot dogs?  Oh HELLLLL NO.

  • While I need to start this with  "No one deserves to be beaten into a coma", this really should be pointed out to all those who proclaimed how dangerous Dodger stadium is for the average patron.

Having been there for 25+ years with out of town/rival team fans, as well as a one time Giants fan girlfriend plenty of times, I have never feared for my safety. Know why? Cause I don't start shit and I certainly don't "feed the trolls" so to speak if other people start mouthing off.

It's the ugly truth but he got himself into that altercation and while I'm very much hoping they catch the scum that committed the crime (the current suspect is not them) I think that the lesson here is don't taunt the bull unless you're willing to get the horns.

It's terrible that he's in a coma...but what was he thinking picking a fight or talking his smack to a gangster??? That's a bad idea no matter where you go in the world. Gangs are not exclusive to this city.

I would never go to a Yankees game and tell a mobish looking fella that the Yankees can suck it. I would just be asking for trouble.

STILL it is no excuse for beating him into a coma.

  • Id eat a dodger dog waaaaaay before id eat my own feces.

  • A big mouth on one side and the unclasified class of dirt known as gangster (or whatever you want to call 'it') on the other. Am I really commenting on this?

  • Interesting considering the media had initially portrayed him as a sweet innocent angel.

  • Calling a guy who was savagely beaten into a coma a "d-bag"?  Verrrrrrrrrrrrry classy LAist.

  • Up_Against_The_Law

Yeah; clearly the man is A Hero and Completely Beyond Reproach. He's the 9/11 Firefighter of Our Times.

YOU ARE A PATHETIC HUMAN BEING. NO ONE IS BEYOND
REPROACH WHEN IT IS DESERVED. AND YES; HIS CHOSEN PROFESSION, WHICH HE EXCELS AT, MAKES HIM A HERO TO MANY. UNFORTUNATELY FOR ME, I KNOW THAT HE WOULD SAVE YOUR SORRY ASS WITHOUT HESITATION, EVEN AFTER YOUR INSANE COMMENTS.

  • Glad the writer pointed out that being a douche doesn't mean you deserve to be assaulted... I was expecting a slew of "he had it coming" comments here as soon as I saw the headline.
