Big news today from Nintendo's E3 press conference at the Nokia Theater -- Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime announced that their new console Wii U will arrive in 2012.

The new controller features a touchpad control screen with multiple functions to appeal to hard core and casual gamers. The new controller allows gamers to switch the game from the television screen to the hand-held screen. The new controller features a 6.2 inch LCD screen built in- 2 analog pads, touch screen, microphone, a gyroscope, camera and more functions - to enable complicated or simple controls.

The Nintendo team wanted to make it clear that the Wii U controller is not a portable video game system, but a way to forge a strong bond between games, television and internet. The console will also give gamers a chance to video chat even when watching a show on TV. Wii U will be backwards compatible to all Wii games and Wii balance board games.

With eight Wii U demos available on the convention floor, this Nintendo announcement may just charm even the most skeptical gamers at E3.
