LAPD Running a DUI Checkpoint in the Valley Tonight

dui-checkpoint-sign.JPG The Los Angeles Police Department will be conducting a Sobriety/Driver’s License checkpoint tonight as part of their ongoing campaign to remove dangerous drivers from the roads and educate the public on safety risks of driving under the influence. The checkpoint will be held from 8 p.m. tonight to 2 a.m. Saturday, June 4 at Roscoe Boulevard and Haskell Avenue in North Hills.

At the checkpoint they will be looking for proper licensing and signs of alcohol and or drug impairment.

The LAPD regularly operate checkpoints as a means of heightening awareness of the dangers of impaired driving, and to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes. The LAPD does not to publicize all their checkpoints, and may operate additional checkpoints this weekend.

If you're heading out tonight anywhere and plan to drink, be sure to have a designated driver, take public transit, or be prepared to call a cab. Be safe!

For more on why the LAPD shares checkpoint schedules and locations with the media, see our 2010 interview with Chief Charlie Beck.

  • The LAPD and all police departments publicize DUI checkpoints because the US Supreme Court ruled in 1993 that not doing so violates our fourth amendment right to unreasonable search and seizure. You have rights. Know them.

Nevermind, reading comp failz, thanks for the info

  • Why do the cops give out EXACT locations on DUI checkpoints?! We want the drunks busted not taking side streets!

  •  Because simply announcing that there will be a check point will get people to think twice about drinking irresponsibly. Knowing that the cops are out there is a steps enough to prevent it.

  • They need to be running more weekend patrols on the 101 between the 405 and 170.

Also, the 405 between the 118 and the 101.

Frackin' drunk central on Fri & Sat nights.

Can't tell you how many times I've had to swerve to avoid obvious boozers. I'd call it on my cell but I'd much rather keep my thoughts on the road in case another drunk swerves in front of me.

C'mon CHP ...get with the program.
