Grease Is The Word: Original Tommy's Chili Cheeseburger Anniversary Special Is $.65

For tonight's last minute dinner plans burger history lesson, prepare to be covered in orange grease and chili-induced shame. A Los Angeles mainstay, the Original Tommy’s at 2575 Beverly Boulevard and Rampart is celebrating over six decades of Tommy Koulax's original burger stand with a 65-cent chili cheeseburger and Coke special until 10:00 p.m. on Sunday night. The original original building, "a ramshackle little stand on the corner," per the Tommy's site, opened on May 15, 1946. The local chain, serving Los Angeles to San Diego counties (and into Nevada) has fed an estimated fifty million faces.
