Maps! Activities! Sights! KCET Releases Field Guide to the LA River

On Saturday, hundreds of volunteers took part in an annual community effort to make the Los Angeles River and its adjacent green spaces cleaner and safer for residents and visitors. Now KCET has released their amazing and comprehensive Field Guide to the LA River, which includes over 90 maps (and growing) of things to do and see along the 52-mile waterway.

Some of the highlights of the interactive site and features include 8 maps that focus on specific needs (Bicycling, Walking, Family Friendly, Fishing, Sightseeing, Bird Watching, Horse Riding, and Parks), a collection of related articles about the River, and a portal to KCET's Departures' full LA River installment. Within each map are profiles of the various locations and activities that are plotted out; picking El Rio De Los Angeles State Park from the Parks map will open up a page devoted to the park that includes a location map, photos, videos, and background info.

Have fun--play around and explore on the web, but then go out and explore the River itself!
