LAst Laugh: This Week in Comedy
Don't freak out, folks... Hannibal Buress is in town. Perhaps the most hyped young comic of the past year, Buress is an absolute force, and he's doing the Meltdown show on Wednesday. You know where I'll be! Elsewhere, Tiger Lily is looking as good as ever, while a bunch of UCBNY shows are taking over the west coast for a week.
If you'd like to get a show listed in the future, email me. It's that simple.
MONDAY 4/25
What’s Up, Tiger Lily?, 8p Hollywood Studio Bar & Grill. If you haven’t been to Tiger Lily yet, now is as good (or better) a time as any. TJ Miller, Greg Behrendt, the Sklar Brothers, Barry Rothbart, Rob O’Reilly and a bunch more great stand ups.
As Not Seen on TV, 11p UCB. Two great LA character guys (Nathan Barnatt & Andre Hyland) put up a bunch of videos that haven’t made the TV cut, but are still worth a second look.
TUESDAY 4/26
Working Girl, 8p Comedy Central Stage. The absolutely fantastic Anne Gregory is taking on the 80’s cult classic Working Girl in full one woman rock opera style.
One Hour Improv Fest, 10:30p Del Close Theatre. This week Miles Stroth and Emily Candini sit in with a cast of improvisers, as they tackle new forms. Not that those two need any help.
WEDNESDAY 4/27
So I Like Superman / OMG, I Heard You’re Dying, 8p UCB. It’s a UCBNY takeover, as Michael Hartney brings his one-nerd Superman show to LA, alongside Chris Kelly’s OMG show, with Lennon Parham sure to be a highlight.
Meltdown Show, 8:30p Meltdown Comedy. Greg Behrendt, Jon Dore, Brent Weinbach and Hannibal Buress?! WHAT?!
THURSDAY 4/28
Jim Jefferies, 8p Irvine Improv. It’s hard to say what will happen with Jefferies in the OC all weekend, but you can be sure you don’t want to miss it.
Jay Mohr, 8p Brea Improv. Jay is doing one set in Brea, so make this one count.
FRIDAY 4/29
Jennifer Coolidge, 9p Brea Improv. Coolidge is doing four sets over the weekend in Brea.
The Business, 10:30p Hollywood Improv Lab. The Business is a popular comedy showcase show from SF, and it’s popping up in LA for a night to bring sketch, stand up, live music, and/or whatever the guys happen think is awesome.
SATURDAY 4/30
The United States of Improv, 8p iO West. Improvisers from different states in the union battle each other for the right to call themselves the official* State of the Union. (*unofficial.)
Magic Bag, 10p Underground Annex. UCBNY transplants DC Pierson, Dominic Dierkes (both of DERRICK fame) and Eliza Skinner have been putting up great shows around town. The preceding Anytime Show is a live podcast taping, while Magic Bag features great stand ups.
SUNDAY 5/1
Charlies’ Comedy Show, 8p The Comedy Store. How about a stand up show with Dan Levy, Rob O’Reilly, Ben Gleib, T.J. Miller? You’re welcome! And if you use promo code ‘laist’, you get in for only $5. YOU’RE DOUBLY WELCOME!
Skinny Sundays, 9:30p Hollywood Improv Lab. Skinny Sundays has been enjoying some success at Bar Lubitsch, which makes the move to the Lab all the more deserved. Rob Lindo will be there as always, and he’s brought Brent Weinbach and Iliza Shlesinger along for the ride.
