Totally Not Special Effects: Universal Studios' Quake Attraction Sparks Fire

The earthquake attraction at Universal Studios is where calamity and disaster is part of the show, but it's supposed to be under control and repeated with every tram visit. A small fire that broke out in the attraction late last night, however, was definitely not part of the entertainment. That fire started at around 11:20 p.m. in a sound stage, according to LA Now, and was out within about half an hour. The studio's sprinkler system kept the small blaze tamed.

"Initial reports indicate that electrical wiring may be to blame," reports ABC7. Luckily the theme park operations were not affected by last night's fire, and all of the rides were expected to be up and running this morning. No estimates regarding damage, or further details about the incident have been made available.

The Universal Studios backlot was the site of a massive and damaging fire in 2008. Restored and renovated portions of the backlot were re-opened in May 2010.
