Grocery Guessing Game: Will Echo Park Get a Trader Joe's or a Fresh & Easy?
The gentrification of Echo Park continues, as evidenced by the guessing game du jour covered by The Eastsider LA today: Will a Trader Joe's or a Fresh & Easy move into the vacated Save A Lot space? Ready, set: Speculate!
On Team Trader Joe's is one resident, who has set up a Facebook page to drum up support for getting the SoCal supermarket chain to set up a post in EP. However, there is a TJ's not too far away in Silver Lake, and the space, say some, is too small for a Joe's.
Is Fresh & Easy looking at the space? The Eastsider LA checked with F&E, and they say they're looking for a space in Echo Park, but won't say if it's that one. Incidentally, that is exactly what F&E will say if you ask them about any rumored possible location; case in point, NoHo, where for sometime locals thought a F&E might move into the old Hows space, and F&E said they were considering spaces in NoHo. It is now a 24 Hour Fitness.
A dark horse contender: Sprouts. The chain also tends to favor large spaces, but the Arizona-based company is on the move in the SoCal market. Dark horse number two: Figueroa Produce, cheered on by Echo Park Now.
