Goodbye, Erica Kane: 'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live' Cancelled

"All My Children" moved to Los Angeles to film in 2009, and has featured local politicians in cameo roles, including Eric Garcetti and Antonio Villaraigosa.
The cancellations have been in the works for several years now, due to low ratings for both shows, the high cost of scripted television and the decrease in viewership among the prime 18-34, female demographic.
The shows will be replaced with talk-show style programs -- "All My Children" by "The Chew," which will be "a daily discussion of everything food," reports Variety, and "One Life to Live" by "The Revolution," which will follow women as they try to lose weight and live healthier lifestyles.
The new programming is promising, but execs at ABC aren't blind to the fact that this will mean the end of some long and meaningful relationships for loyal fans:
"While we are excited about our new shows and the shift in our business, I can't help but recognize how bittersweet the change is," said Brian Frons, president, daytime, Disney ABC/Television Group.
