FILM
The Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles opens tonight for a five-day run at the ArcLight Hollywood. It opens tonight with the gala screening for I am Kalam by director Nila Madhab Panda. It tells the story of a friendship of two boys from opposite worlds. Indian favorites provided by Chakra Cuisine and Divya Wines. Tickets: $75. (Indian food trucks throughout the week and other screenings are more affordable at $13.)

There’s a night of music and projections tonight at Space15Twenty as part of the Month of Photography Los Angeles (MOPLA). Curated by Sara Jane Boyers and Martin Cox, featured photographers are Sara Jane Boyers, Martin Cox, Nicola Dill, Ann Mitchell, John Rosewall, Magnus Stark and Svjetlana Tepavcevic. From 7 to 10 pm tonight.     

GRAPHIC NOVELS*
LA Times staff writer Deborah Vankin and Jen Wang will sign and discuss their respective graphic novels Posseurs and Koko Be Good, interviewed by writer Amy Klein at Skylight Books. 7:30 pm. 


COMEDY
Tonight at 8 pm, check out LAist's own Farley Elliott in Hugs, Drugs, & Thugs on the Comedy Central Stage. With R.J. Pomeroy and Andrew Portner, the trio make up the best rappers / motivational speakers that Lawson Middle School has ever seen. Tickets are FREE, but make reservations by calling 323.960.5519.

DISCUSSION
Zócalo at the Hammer presents the program Who Was the Real Gandhi? with Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Joseph Lelyveld, author of Great Soul: Mahatma Gandhi and His Struggle with India. Before he became the social activist, Mohandas Gandhi was a business-suited lawyer in South Africa, facing racism himself. Free. 7 pm. Parking is available under the museum for $3 after 6 pm.

Verdugo Bar is joined by Veronica Vega and crew of Oregon’s Deschutes Brewery. They’re pouring their beers. Food truck of the night: Fresh Fries.

It’s Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day through 8 pm tonight. Check hours and your local store to make sure they’re participating.
