LAst Night's Action: Ducks' Finn Helps Clinch Playoff Berth
Anaheim Ducks defeat LA Kings 2-1. Thanks to Teemu Selanne’s two goals, the Ducks clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. And for the very first time both the Ducks and the Kings make the playoffs in the same season. Also another interesting note: with the San Jose Sharks also in the playoffs, California has more playoff teams (3) than Canada (2, Vancouver Canucks; Montreal Canadiens.) Go figure.
Things looked good for the Kings when they took advantage of some sloppy puck handling by the Ducks with Ryan Smyth scoring his 22nd goal of the season at 11:22 in the first period. Then things looked bad for the Kings when Dustin Brown landed awkwardly on the ice after being tripped up by Toni Lydman in the third period. Brown went to the locker room in the ensuing power-play but eventually returned to the ice.
The two teams complete the home-and-home series Saturday night at STAPLES Center for the season finale.
Portland Trail Blazers defeat LA Lakers 93-86. The Lakers lose their fourth consecutive game, and it’s TIME TO PANIC!
Toronto Blue Jays defeat LA Angels 3-2. Not a good sign for the Angels in their home opener.
LA Dodgers and San Diego Padres 2-2 (top 6). Two rain delays. The last one lasted until 12:15 a.m. Saturday morning. This writer dead to the world.
Dallas Mavericks defeat LA Clippers 107-96. The Lakers’ lead over the Mavs for the second seed in the Western Conference has now shrunk to one game.
