Search Continues For Student Who Fell In San Gabriel River
The search continued Sunday morning at Foothill Boulevard and Azusa Avenue for 20-year-old Joe Le, a Golden West College student who fell into the fast and frigid East Fork of the San Gabriel River on Friday, reports KTLA. Reportedly, a person saw a body in the river on Friday but "lost sight of it as it drifted downstream."
Le was trying to cross the snowmelt-swollen river at a spot where a rope is strung across the river when he was swept away by raging currents about 1:30 p.m. Friday near the 24200 block of East Fork Road in the Angeles National Forest near Camp Williams, witnesses and sheriff's deputies have reported.
A helicopter crew will be resuming flights over the river and Sheriff's deputies are considering sending divers into spots downstream of the fall. So far, rescuers have only recovered his backpack with his belongings.
