Former OC Student Broke Into High School, Installed Spyware, Changed Grades, Stole AP Tests

A former OC student was found guilty on Monday of breaking into Tesoro High School in Las Flores to change grades on his college transcript and to steal Advanced Placement tests. Omar Shahid Khan, now 21, had pleaded guilty to several felonies, including commercial burglary and altering public records, reports KTLA.

Prosecutors said the Coto de Caza man broke into offices and classrooms several times between January and May of 2008. The Orange County district attorney's office said Khan installed spyware on school computers to gain teacher's user name and passwords, reports KTLA, and signed into a school computer to alter his transcript --and the grades of other students -- and also stole tests for AP courses.

In April 2008 a teacher caught Khan cheating on an AP statistics test, reports KTLA. Authorities say Khan broke into the assistant principal's office following the incident and stole the test to remove evidence that he cheated.

Co-defendant Tanvir Singh, 21, pleaded guilty in September 2008 to one felony count and one misdemeanor count in connection with the case and was sentenced to three years of probation and 200 hours of community service. Khan is scheduled to be sentenced on August 26.
